Hardwood Cutting Board + Serveware Care Do’s + Don’ts

Do:

  • Hand wash.

  • Use a small amount of liquid dish soap and water to clean it after each use.

  • Wipe dry and allow board to stand on its side while air-drying completely.

  • Clean your board soon after using it.

  • Use white vinegar to sanitize board after prepping raw meat.

  • To freshen up a board, rub a halved lemon on the surface. Let this sit for a few minutes then wipe clean. This helps to eliminate odors.

  • Use an oil or wax made for cutting boards at least every month. Food grade mineral oil and/or beeswax work best. Apply oil with a rag in circular motions. Allow your board to absorb the oil or wax for twenty four hours.

Don’t:

  • Place your board in the dishwasher. The dishwasher will cause boards to warp and crack.

  • Soak board. Exposure to too much water will cause the board to warp and split.

  • Use harsh cleaners

  • Never use a cooking oil on your board. These oils go rancid and cause your board to smell.
